Freshman School Named State Momentum Award Recipient for 3rd Straight Year Fairfield Freshman School had all of its students - including gifted, students in the lowest 20% in achievement, and students with disabilities - show academic growth on the 2018-2019 state report card. For this achievement, the school earned a letter grade of A on all Value-Added measures, and for the third straight year recognition with a Momentum Award. The award is presented by the State Board of Education to celebrate achievements that align with the state board’s strategic plan for education, "that each child is challenged to discover and learn, prepared to pursue a fulfilling post-high school path and empowered to become a resilient, lifelong learner who contributes to society." Charlotte McGuire, District 3 State Board of Education member, will present the award at a future Fairfield Board of Education meeting to Principal Michael Berkemeier. The date of the presentation will be announced when scheduled. "State of the Schools" to be Presented at Feb. 6 Board of Education Meeting Superintendent Billy Smith will present the State of the Schools at the February 6 Board of Education work session. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the FCSD Administration Building, 4641 Bach Lane, in Fairfield. Final Push for EdChoice Voucher Solution - School Districts Do Not Support Senate-Revised Amendment Last Thursday, January 23, we sent joined other school districts in a call to action encouraging you to support an amendment to the Educational Choice Scholarship Program (EdChoice) drafted in the Senate. In general, that amendment would remove schools with an overall grade of A, B, C or D from the eligibility list, limit vouchers for those who have never attended the eligible school to incoming freshmen only, provide a $10 million appropriation for reimbursement to districts for this provision and increase the income threshold for the income-based EdChoice program from 200% to 250% of the federal poverty guidelines.
